Learning at Home 20/21
Learning at home is very important for the children to embed the skills that they are learning at school and also to build their understanding of the world and language skills. These will be developed by providing out of school experiences for your children and engaging in conversations about a wide range of subject.

Dear Parents and children in Class 1,
We hope you all had a relaxing half term week and enjoyed some of the sunshine we saw too.
Thank you for all the brilliant pictures of making and eating your pancakes and eating chinese food with chopsticks! You are all amazing!
SPACE NEWS!
Last week Nasa's rover called Perseverance landed on Mars! It has taken about 7 months to get there on a 292 million mile journey from planet Earth! There are no astronauts as the rover is a robot and was named 'Perseverance' by a 13 year old pupil who lives in America.
Watch this clip from Newsround about the landing of the rover on Mars.

PREVIOUS WEEK'S REMOTE LEARNING
1st February 2021
Dear Parents,
For this week I will only be updating the phonics and art subjects. This will give those of you, who need it, a chance to finish the previous week's learning in the maths, science and english units.
Please see the new tab for this years Mental Health Week with extra ideas to do together at home.
Children’s Mental Health Week 2021 - Express Yourself
From 1-7 February 2021 schools, youth groups, organisations and individuals across the UK will take part in Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme is Express Yourself.
Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good.
It’s important to remember that being able to express yourself is not about being the best at something or putting on a performance for others. It is about finding a way to show who you are, and how you see the world, that can help you feel good about yourself.
For Children's Mental Health Week 2021 we will be encouraging children (and adults) to explore the different ways we can express ourselves, and the creative ways that we can share our feelings, our thoughts and our ideas.
Link to children's mental health websiteI have also added some creative ideas linked to Space in the children's mental health tab.
Have a lovely week together and thank you again for supporting your child learning remotely. You are all doing an amazing job!
Take care
Mrs. Lupion and Miss. Topliss

Dear Parents,
We have loved seeing your observations from home this week, especially the videos of the children singing the phonics songs, counting star jumps, and reading captions. We miss seeing them all but can see that you're making the activities fun and supporting them with their learning. Thank you very much!
We will contact you this week regarding the collection of pack 2 should you still require it (please note it is available to download in the new resources tab- pack 2).
- Please see updates in the Phonics tab for this week for both year groups.
- Please also continue with the English, Science and year 1 Maths units.
- For EYFS Maths lessons, I would like you to look at sorting and 3D shapes this week by exploring shapes and using language to describe position accurately. This is the link to the EYFS maths lessons.
A few parents have enquired about following a timetabled structure for their child that supports learning at home.
Below you will find information about our school day for the children who are in school at the moment and our expectations for their work. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need any help.
We recognise that for many families it is extremely hard to manage adults’ home-working and children remote learning, all we can ask of ourselves and each other, at this time, is kindness – bed time will come and anything not done will have to wait.
Weekly timetable for pupils in school
If this helps then use it – some parents would prefer a structure provided by us. If you are able to complete most of the work set each week then we will all have similar learning needs when we return.
I know many of you have already established a daily routine incorporating a maths, english and a phonics lesson with either a science, outdoor or a story activity as well and this is working really well. This is just a guide to support the daily routine of learning at home, should you need it.

Homework
For the children in the EYFS, homework is to read their reading books and practise their phonics and key words at home each day.
The children in year one will be set homework covering the topic and can hand in their books every Tuesday for an adult to check. Spellings and phonics will be added weekly.
All homework should be completed in pencil and should be your child’s best work.
We are teaching a cursive handwriting style in school and an example of how to form the 'pre-cursive' letters is in the front of the homework book. Please encourage your child to practise these when they are writing.
Phonics Screening (Year 1)
This year all of the children in year one will be taking a statutory phonics screening check. This check will take place nationally in June.
The check will involve the children reading a range of real and non-words using their phonics up to phase 5 and will take 5-10 minutes to complete. It will be administered in a quiet room with their teacher. The check will help to identify children who may need additional support with their phonics next year and these children will have the opportunity to be checked again in year 2.
Results of the check will be reported to parents in the summer term. There are some resources to support attached below.
