At Newton Burgoland Primary School, we are proud to work with Dolce School Catering to provide high-quality, nutritious school meals for our pupils. Dolce is committed to using ethically sourced ingredients and, where possible, locally sourced produce. Meals are freshly prepared in Ashby and delivered to school in temperature-controlled containers, ready to be served to our children.
A healthy, balanced diet plays an important role in supporting children's learning and wellbeing. School meals include a balance of carbohydrates, proteins and vegetables, helping pupils to develop healthy eating habits and make informed food choices. Our current menu can be viewed using the link at the bottom of this page.
School meals are ordered through the SchoolGrid online ordering system, which can be accessed from a computer, tablet or smartphone. Meals can be ordered up to 9:30am on the day they are required, or booked in advance for a longer period, including a whole term.
We encourage parents and children to choose meals together, helping pupils to make healthy choices and develop independence. All meal payments are made securely through the SchoolGrid system. Parents will receive login details when their child joins the school
Your child may be eligible for Free School Meals if your family receives a qualifying benefit. Registering for Free School Meals not only provides support for your child but also helps the school access additional funding through the Pupil Premium grant.
This funding can be used to enhance learning opportunities and, in some cases, support children with activities such as educational visits, residential trips, after-school clubs and enrichment experiences.
Even if your child currently receives Universal Infant Free School Meals or prefers to bring a packed lunch, we encourage eligible families to register. Doing so ensures that your child and the school can benefit from any additional support available. More information about eligibility and how to apply can be found on our Free School Meals page.
Children under the age of five may be entitled to free milk at school. Milk is also available for older children through a subsidised scheme. Drinking milk can provide important nutrients, including calcium and protein, which support healthy growth and development.
If you would like your child to receive milk during the school day, please visit our Milk Information page for details about eligibility, registration and any associated costs. Information on how to sign up and manage your child's milk provision can also be found there.
Children who bring a packed lunch are encouraged to make healthy food choices. A balanced lunch helps children maintain their energy levels, concentration and wellbeing throughout the school day, supporting them to make the most of their learning.
We ask families to provide a nutritious packed lunch that includes a variety of foods, such as fruit, vegetables, carbohydrates and protein. Sweets, crisps, chocolate bars and fizzy drinks should not be included.
As a school, we promote healthy lifestyles and encourage children to develop positive eating habits that will benefit them both now and in the future. Further guidance can be found in our Whole School Food Policy and through the NHS Change4Life healthy lunchbox resources.
Throughout the year, we enjoy a range of themed lunches that celebrate special events, seasonal occasions and exciting curriculum topics. These popular events encourage children to try new foods, enjoy shared experiences with their friends and add an extra element of fun to the school day.
Families will be informed in advance of any themed lunch events, along with details of the menu and how to place orders through SchoolGrid. We encourage all children to take part and enjoy these special dining experiences together.
If you have any questions about school meals, dietary requirements or ordering arrangements, please contact the school office at admin@newburland.leics.sch.uk. We are always happy to help.
