Class 4 Meet the Illustrator

In Class 4, we have been exploring the work of celebrated author and illustrator Ed Vere, inspired by his beautiful book The Elephant and the Sea. Through studying his illustrations, we discovered how he uses colour, texture, line and expression to tell stories and convey emotion.

The story encouraged us to think about themes such as adventure, courage, friendship and belonging. We carefully examined Ed Vere's distinctive artistic style, paying particular attention to his use of mixed media, bold brushstrokes and expressive character design.

Using these techniques as inspiration, the children created their own artwork, experimenting with colour blending, sketching and painting to produce imaginative pieces linked to the story. They developed their observational skills, creativity and confidence as artists while learning how illustrations can bring a story to life.

This project encouraged children to demonstrate our STRIDE characteristics by showing scholarship through studying an established illustrator, creativity and curiosity through exploring different artistic techniques, resilience when refining and improving their work, and independence in developing their own artistic ideas.

We are incredibly proud of the wonderful artwork produced by Class 4 and the thoughtful way they responded to Ed Vere's inspiring illustrations.
