At Newton Burgoland Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the best possible start to their education. Our Early Years Foundation Stage provides a nurturing, stimulating and ambitious environment where children feel safe, valued and excited to learn. We recognise that children develop rapidly in their early years and that secure foundations are essential for future success, wellbeing and lifelong learning.
Our EYFS curriculum is carefully designed around meaningful experiences, high-quality interactions and purposeful play. We provide a balance of child-initiated exploration and adult-led learning, enabling children to develop independence, curiosity, resilience and confidence. Through rich learning opportunities, children are encouraged to explore, investigate, create, question and discover.
We place a strong emphasis on developing communication and language skills, recognising that spoken language underpins all areas of learning. Children are immersed in stories, conversations, songs and vocabulary-rich experiences that support language development and foster a love of reading from the very beginning of their school journey.
Our curriculum supports children across all seven areas of learning:
Communication and Language
Physical Development
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
Learning is carefully planned to build children's knowledge, skills and understanding while following their interests and responding to their individual needs. We value outdoor learning as a fundamental part of childhood and provide regular opportunities for exploration, investigation and physical development through our outdoor environments.
Strong relationships are at the heart of our Early Years provision. We work closely with families to ensure that every child feels known, understood and supported. By building positive partnerships with parents and carers, we create a shared approach to helping children thrive.
Our aim is for every child to leave Reception as a confident, capable and enthusiastic learner, equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for a successful transition into Key Stage One and beyond. We want our children to be resilient, independent, kind and curious, with a genuine love of learning and a belief in their own potential.
Our Early Years curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure children build strong foundations across all areas of learning. Through play, exploration, active learning and critical thinking, children develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours that prepare them for future success. By the end of Reception, pupils are ready to embrace new challenges, communicate confidently, work collaboratively and continue their learning journey with enthusiasm and confidence
