Religious Education plays an important role in Newton Burgoland Primary School's vision for education. It provides children with opportunities to explore, understand and discuss a wide range of religions, world-views and beliefs, enabling them to hold informed, respectful and balanced conversations about faith and identity.
Through our RE curriculum, children develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity alongside other major world religions and world-views. We encourage pupils to explore questions about meaning, purpose, belonging and values, helping them to make sense of the diverse society in which they live.
We create meaningful opportunities for children to learn directly about different faiths and cultures through visitors, visits, stories, celebrations and first-hand experiences. By exploring both the similarities and differences between beliefs and traditions, pupils learn what unites us as people while developing a genuine appreciation of diversity.
Our approach encourages children to listen carefully to the views of others, express their own ideas thoughtfully and engage in respectful dialogue. Through discussion, reflection and enquiry, pupils learn that it is possible to disagree with kindness, challenge with respect and seek understanding before judgement.
As children progress through the school, they develop the knowledge, empathy and critical thinking skills needed to navigate an increasingly diverse world. We aim to nurture wise, compassionate and reflective citizens who are equipped to understand, respect and value different perspectives, and who are committed to building communities based on acceptance, understanding and unity.
Our carefully sequenced RE curriculum enables children to build their understanding of religions, beliefs and world-views over time. Pupils develop skills of enquiry, interpretation, analysis, reflection and evaluation, becoming increasingly confident in discussing complex questions about faith, ethics, identity and belonging. Through this progression, children gain both religious literacy and the personal qualities needed to thrive in a diverse and interconnected world.
We follow the Leicestershire Agreed Syllabus for RE.
