  • Pupil Leaders

At Newton Burgoland, we believe that every child can make a positive difference to our school community. Through a range of leadership opportunities, pupils develop confidence, responsibility, teamwork and communication skills while helping to shape school life. Our pupil leaders act as role models for others and play an important part in ensuring that every child feels valued, heard and included.

    School Council

Our School Council gives pupils a genuine voice in decisions that affect school life. Representatives are elected by the school community and meet regularly to discuss ideas, share feedback and help improve our school community.

School Council members listen carefully to the views of others, represent their peers fairly and work collaboratively with staff to bring about positive change. Through this role, pupils learn about democracy, responsibility and active citizenship while developing confidence in expressing their opinions respectfully.

    Sports Ambassadors

Our Sports Ambassadors promote healthy, active lifestyles and encourage participation in sport and physical activity across the school. They help to organise games and activities at lunchtimes, support sporting events and competitions, and inspire younger pupils to enjoy being active.

Through their role, Sports Ambassadors develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills while championing the importance of physical and mental wellbeing. They help ensure that every child has opportunities to participate, challenge themselves and discover a love of sport.

    Reading Ambassadors

Reading Ambassadors are passionate advocates for reading and help to promote a love of books throughout the school. They encourage younger pupils to enjoy stories, recommend favourite books, support reading events and help create exciting reading environments.

By sharing their enthusiasm for literature, Reading Ambassadors inspire others to develop lifelong reading habits. They demonstrate excellent reading behaviours and show how reading can open doors to new knowledge, ideas and experiences.

    Eco Team

Our Eco Team is committed to helping our school become more environmentally aware and sustainable. Members work together to identify ways to reduce waste, save energy, care for our outdoor spaces and promote positive environmental actions.

The Eco Team leads initiatives across the school, raises awareness of environmental issues and encourages everyone to play their part in caring for the world around us. Through this role, pupils develop a sense of responsibility for both their local community and the wider planet.

    Diversity Champions

Our Diversity Champions help to ensure that Newton Burgoland is a welcoming, inclusive and respectful school where everyone feels they belong. They promote understanding of different cultures, backgrounds, beliefs, abilities and experiences, helping pupils to celebrate what makes us unique while recognising the values we share.

Diversity Champions take an active role in raising awareness of important equality and inclusion themes, supporting assemblies and events, and encouraging respectful conversations across the school. Through their work, they help create a community where every child feels seen, heard and valued.

By serving as Diversity Champions, pupils develop empathy, confidence and leadership skills while learning the importance of fairness, kindness and respect in modern society.

    E-Safety Leaders

Our E-Safety Leaders support the school in promoting safe, responsible and positive use of technology. In a rapidly changing digital world, they help pupils understand how to stay safe online, make sensible choices and seek help when needed.

E-Safety Leaders work with staff to raise awareness of online safety issues, contribute to Safer Internet Day activities and share key messages with their peers about responsible digital citizenship. They help educate others about topics such as online privacy, respectful communication, cyberbullying and managing screen time.

Through this role, pupils develop leadership, responsibility and digital literacy skills while helping to create a culture where technology is used safely, respectfully and purposefully.

    Developing STRIDE Through Pupil Leadership

Pupil leadership opportunities help our children develop the qualities that underpin our STRIDE values:

    • Scholarship – researching ideas, gathering opinions and making informed decisions.

    • Teamwork – working collaboratively to achieve shared goals.

    • Resilience – overcoming challenges and persevering when things do not go to plan.

    • Independence – taking responsibility and showing initiative.

    • Diversity and Respect – valuing different viewpoints and ensuring all voices are heard.

    • Enquiry – asking questions and seeking improvements.

    • Creativity and Curiosity – generating new ideas and finding innovative solutions.

Through these leadership roles, our pupils learn that they can positively influence their school, support others and contribute to making Newton Burgoland an even better place to learn and grow.
